FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: KATE LANPHEAR

Kate Lanphear is the coolest person I’ve never known, with one of the coolest jobs that I could ever imagine having as the Style Director for Elle Magazine. Her signature black clothing, platinum blonde hair cut, edgy silver  jewelry and accessories can be described with three G’s, glamour, goth and grung. She has a style all her own that won’t be wavered by any current fad or trend.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: GENEVIEVE JONES

There has been much talk about who Genevieve Jones is, where she comes from and how she worked her way up the latter of New York’s elite to become what vogue magazine called the “girl of the moment”. Genevieve caught the attention of photographers in New York for her impeccable style. So you throw in a pretty face, fit physique and personality to match and you have yourself an “it girl”. Genevieve has managed to befriend not only the New York’s elite but some of the most famous people in hollywood, music and the art world. Being around these type of people, its only natural to get inspired to follow your own dreams cue to Genevieve’s very successful, internationally known and beloved jewelry and accessories line. So never mind how and where, I’m just happy to see another rare person with a true sense of personal style rather than the sea of fashion clones spread across this planet.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: TRACEE ELLIS ROSS

As the daughter of Diana Ross, it’s no wonder where Tracee gets her good taste in fashion. I first fell in love with Tracee’s style during the eight years that she played Joan Clayton on the hit sitcom Girlfriends , and my obsession continues as she plays Dr. Carla Reed on her new sitcom Reed Between The Lines. Tracee embraces the trends while  making them her own. She is known to be an avid shopper of vintage clothing but always manages to make it look up to date. She is aware of the silhouettes, fabrics, prints and patterns that works for her body, as well as the right hair style and makeup the goes with whatever she’s wearing.Whether she is on the screen, at an event or out and about during the day , I can always count on Tracee to be chic.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: EMMANUELLE ALT

When I see Emmanuelle Alt I think of a leader of a european rock band. But actually for a little over a year now Emmanuelle  has been the new Editor- in-chief for french Vogue. Her style is very simple yet chic and androgynous. She lets her shoes and jackets be the statement pieces and her jeans and shirts be the staple pieces. What I love most about her style is that it is timeless. No matter what the trend is, Emmanuelle will always look up to date. She’s such a cool chick.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: ESTHER QUEK

The menswear look for women is something that comes in and out of fashion every so many years. But Esther Quek’s androgynous style reminds us how menswear and womenswear blends so beautifully. Esther is currently the Group Fashion Editor at ‘The Rake’, a mens lifestyle magazine and ‘Revolution’, a watch lifestyle magazine. If you want more of Esther Quek you can check the top magazine websites (Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar etc.) and street style photography blogs (Jak and Jil, Satorialist, All The Pretty Birds) during mens fashion week.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: SHIONA TURINI

At a very young age Shiona Turini has attained the ideal career of many fashion enthusiast. After college she interned for free at YSL under the PR Manager Garine for a year which blossomed into a position as a PR Coordinator for YSL. After three years at YSL Shiona became the Accessories Market Editor at W Magazine. During that time the Bermuda born fashionista started a company called Style Bermuda which is a lifestyle and entertainment firm specializing in publicity, events, marketing, branding, talent and relations and consulting. Today Shiona is Teen Vogue’s Senior Accessories Editor. Shiona has referenced her style to the R&B group TLC’s album  title as “crazy, sexy, cool”, and I agree with her. When you see Shiona she is always wearing fun patterns, prints, colors and textures. But what always catches my eyes on Shiona is her shoes. Her shoes are almost never basic or ordinary, they are always uniquely structure and shaped. When I need a little style inspiration Shiona will always be one of my go-to people.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: MIROSLAVA DUMA

As a former editor at Harper’s Bazaar (Russia) and currently a freelance writer for various magazines such as OK Magazine (Russia), Tatler and Glamour (Russia), Miroslava Duma has catapulted herself  to the status of an international fashionista. Her  young, fresh and sophisticated style has made her a true stand out amongst her fashion peers. She is not afraid to experiment with color, texture and shapes. She is a fashion risk taker that  has yet to lose.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: SOLANGE KNOWLES

Solange Knowles is more than just Beyonce’s little sister, she is a mother, singer, writer, actress, model, designer dj and a 21st century fashion icon. Solange has mastered modernizing the looks of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Her style is bold, unique and regal. At time in fashion where everyone is TRYING to an original and a trend setter without much success, Solange’s individuality reigns supreme.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: JUNE AMBROSE

When I think of “Effortless Style” (hint, hint) I think of the always camera ready celebrity stylist June Ambrose and her daughter, which whom can be seen with her all over New York and front row in fashion week. June Ambrose in the epitome of a NYC fashionista with her very bold and in your face wardrobe. There is no way that one will not notice her walking by, I mean if style had a smell, she would give off that scent.  Mrs. Ambrose is a household name is the fashion world but is most know for introducing the hip hop world into high fashion. She accomplished that by styling over 100 music videos, two of some of the most famous videos are Sean Combs, Mase & Biggy Smalls-more money more problems and Missy Elliot- I cant stand the rain and by creating a fashionable image for her clients Jay Z, Sean Combs, Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey. Her talents have opened doors for her to start her now 17 year old brand imaging and lifestyle company Mod Squad, publishing her book Effortless Style, becoming the “style architect” for Simon Cowell’s tv show “The X Factor” and her own reality show “Styled by June” on VH1 airing in February 2012.

FAD KILLER OF THE MONTH: TAYLOR TOMASI HILL

Taylor Tomasi Hill is the Style and Accessories Director of US Marie Claire Magazine and is one of  the most photographed attendees of fashion week. Her style is what I like to call relaxed  chic, she mixes fur with t-shirts, sweatshirts with chiffon and my favorite thing about her is that she’s a sneaker chick. She’s not reserved when it comes to prints, textures and colors and can be regularly seen in sweaters, fur, and scarves/stoles. She lists Rick Owens leather jackets, Madewell jeans, YSL heels, Burberry trench coats, Zara clothing, sneakers and a Chanel 2.55 as must haves in her wardrobe. Taylor definitely knows the importance of shopping for key pieces and not outfits. For that reason, she if definitely a style icon in my book.
